Charge of the Light Brigade

The poem "Charge of the Light Brigade" by Alfred Tennyson was my favorite poem we read this year. I felt like this poem was easier to relate to then many of the other poems that we read throughout the year. Many of us have found ourselves put in "not a very pleasant position" at some point during our lives just like the subject of the poem (Wilde 40). In this regard we can relate to the poem as we followed through on something we knew should not occur but that we knew we must do. While the historical example falls into a much more extreme category then what we experienced but the thought of someone being responsible for many men being "quite exploded" because of their orders remains fairly easy for us to relate to due to the idea of being forced to do something you know should not be done (Wilde 45). While some may think it "awfully hard" but others can imagine that humans would be this loyal to the orders they were given to march into certain death (Wilde 17). In addition the poem taught an important lesson about the importance of being clear as a lack of clarity resulted in the massacre that is the subject of the poem. These lessons are ones that we can easily relate to and understand which is why this poem was my favorite poem of the year.
