Challenges

Dear Chief Bromden,

I am writing because your struggles against Nurse Ratched provide a strong story of inspiration for those facing the challenge of AP English 11. As you faced down the Big Nurse so to must the students face down the numerous challenges of AP English 11 not only to grow for ourselves but to help others around us much like you helped to other patients in the ward. In the beginning you started off timid and afraid shown when you state “It’s gonna burn me just that way" to even talk about the events, much as we felt at the beginning o the year (8). Our confidence began to grow much as when small acts of rebellion occur such as with Nurse Ratched "hollering and squealing at the back of their[the patient's] heads about discipline and order” we to begin to act on our own either to the pleasure or displeasure of the teacher (145). For us this growth appears in the discussions and writings as we develop confidence and begin to talk or write on our own with less and less guidance from the teacher. Eventually we grew to the point where we worked almost completely independently and even though at times we still looked to the teacher to "fix it with tape or something? Make it well again?" such as you did when the basketball broke (208). However, your story clearly shows how even when faced with the daunting challenge of AP English 11 one should persevere and not give up.
