Let's See Othello

One of the best times in AP English 12 occurred during the class field trip to see the play Othello. As all the AP English 12 students gathered in anticipation of the trip everyone wondered what the trip would be like and also what Ms. Serensky's father would be like. Once everyone gathered on the bus and left for the play everyone got more and more excited to see the play. As we arrive someone decides that we should take a group picture and everyone wonders "what on earth has gotten into" Ms. Serensky that we would be stopping to take a group picture(Currie 267). Once the group finally gets into the theater and the play begins the comedy of actually seeing the play and we hear "the first laugh" in AP English "in years" (Kesey 12). Throughout the play the entertainment of actually knowing the play and being able to debate what scenes they modified or eliminated provided a continuous source of discussion for us. As we realize that some scenes have been eliminated we come to the understanding that "it is absurd to have a hard-and-fast rule about" what should be included or excluded based off the original play (Wilde 4). As the play draws to a close excited conversation arises between the AP English 12 students about the play, never before have I been that invested in an English book. As the bus returns us to Chagrin the majority of the conversation revolves around the differences between the play and the book. Upon the return to Chagrin as we sat in Sands Community Room working on sheets comparing the original play we read and the one we saw while waiting for the pizza to show up, I came to the realization that it was one of the best days of AP English 12 we were likely to have.
